We were super lucky at PES this week to have two special assemblies sponsored by Trevor Romain and the USO. K-2 students had a fun, interactive song and dance presentation that talked about how to handle different feelings, making friends, and missing a loved one who is far away. Third-fifth grade students had a great discussion and heard lots of meaningful and inspired stories by Trevor Romain himself. Students were able to ask lots of questions and share about their own experiences too.

Third, fourth and fifth grade lessons will continue this week... In addition, I was lucky enough to spend my day with all the kindergarten classes yesterday! We read the book, "I Like Myself" and discussed all the silly pages and messages within! We brainstormed what the author wanted us to learn from reading her story. After each student completed their own 'I Like Myself' sheet that we compiled into a book for the class to take back to their teacher. The students really enjoyed reading their finished book together! Wonder why we look like this.... The PES Relay for Life team is sponsoring a spirit week at PES this week! Each day we have a different theme and donations for participating are accepted and appreciated! All donations go to our Relay for Life team! Can you guess what today's theme is?!?! Not a student or staff member, but still want to help support our Relay Team? This beautiful wreath is for raffle in the office! Stop by today to purchase tickets!
Our lessons in 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades this month will be a follow up to our bully lesson last month. We will start out watching this video created by 5th graders titled "Stand Up Against Bullying" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gvuEu8N_KJc and discussing it. After students will be encouraged to use their own creativity to design their own posters to combine our lessons with their own inspirational messages to stop bullying in our school. Students will take their posters and hang around the school after our lesson. Here are some pictures to enjoy...
Reminder! If you paid to attend our Valentine's Day Parent's Night Out it was canceled due to weather, but was rescheduled for this Friday night! We can't wait to see you there!!!
During the month of February 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade lessons were on the definition and types of bullying. My goals for students were to understand that bullying is a when one person is mean to another person over and over again, that bullying can happen anywhere, to identify the 4 types of bullying, and to leave my class with some strategies to use if they were or witnessed someone being bullied. Students helped me teach the lessons by designing posters to teach their classmates about the 4 types of bullying: Physical, Verbal, Social, Cyberbullying. The students did a great job explaining their types of bullying to their classmates. We ended our lesson with a short video from the National Bullying Prevention Center, which showed different kids offering ways you could handle bullying situations. We then listed these strategies and others we could think on a poster for the class to take back with the others they made to their classrooms. See below for some of the examples students made.
This is a fun week at PES and a great time to celebrate our love of reading and great books! I was excited to be the guest reader on the morning announcements today and read 'Fox in Sox!' by Dr. Suess. I have had some experiences with foxes in real life...and none have been as cute as those in that book :)
